How far is Tahuya from Seattle?
Leonora by the Sea is about two hours from downtown Seattle by car. The most direct route is south through Tacoma, across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, then north on Highway 3 to Belfair and west along North Shore Road.
The address is 15870 NE North Shore Rd, Tahuya, WA 98588, in Mason County. Our Google Maps pin drops you at the driveway. It is worth saving the pin and your turn-by-turn directions to your phone before you leave the city, so you are not hunting for the address on the last stretch of North Shore Road.
Two hours assumes an ordinary run. Traffic leaving Seattle can add to it, so give yourself room. Check-in is at 3:00 PM.
How do you drive here from Tacoma or SeaTac?
From Tacoma or SeaTac, the route joins the Seattle drive at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge: across the bridge, then north on Highway 3 to Belfair and west along North Shore Road. You skip the run down from the city entirely.
You will want a car either way. Tahuya sits on the north shore of the Hood Canal, and everything on our Hood Canal guide — the oyster bars, the trailheads, the resort dining rooms — is a drive from the cabin.
Can you take a Washington State Ferry to Tahuya?
You can, but the last leg is always by road: we point guests to the Seattle–Bremerton route, and Bremerton is about 45 minutes from the cabin. A ferry replaces part of the drive, not all of it.
Washington State Ferries currently runs the Seattle / Bremerton, Seattle / Bainbridge Island and Edmonds / Kingston routes, among others (see Sources below). Bremerton is about 45 minutes from us; for Bainbridge Island or Kingston, check the drive time to Belfair before you choose.
We do not publish sailing times here, because they change by season, day of the week and vessel. Check the official WSDOT schedule for your route and travel date before you commit to a ferry, and leave yourself a margin. If you land later than planned, check-in is self-service, so there is nobody waiting on a key handoff.
Ferry schedules
How long is the drive from the Olympic Peninsula?
It is about two hours from Port Townsend and about 45 minutes from Bremerton. Coming from the peninsula side, you approach the Hood Canal from the north instead of looping down through Tacoma.
This is the route that makes sense if the cabin is one stop in a longer Olympic Peninsula trip. Mt. Ellinor, Lena Lake and the Staircase entrance to Olympic National Park are each about two hours away by road, with drive times listed on the Hood Canal guide.
Where do you stop for groceries and gas?
Belfair, about 20 minutes east, is the closest town with grocery stores and gas. It is the last real shopping of the drive and it sits directly on the route in from Tacoma, so the easy move is to fill the tank and do a full grocery run there rather than driving back out later.
Closer in, the general store at Summertide Resort and Marina is a two-minute walk along the road and covers basics and treats — enough to fill a gap, not enough for a week of dinners.
Plan on cooking. The cabin has a full kitchen with a vintage range, a BBQ grill outside, and complimentary coffee and tea already stocked; the rest of the amenities are listed here. If you want oysters or clams with dinner, read oysters and clams on the Hood Canal before you shop.
How do check-in, parking and the door code work?
Check-in is at 3:00 PM, check-out is 11:00 AM, and you let yourself in with a Schlage keypad. We send your personal door code 24 hours before arrival. There is no key handoff and nobody waiting for you in the driveway.
Parking is free and off-street, on the property itself. The beach is private, shared only with the neighbors — there is no public access — and it is about fifty steps from the door to the beach.
Once you are in, we stay out of the way. If something comes up we are a text message away, and guests say in our reviews that we answer quickly and otherwise leave them alone, which is the intent.
Before you book
What should you bring?
Bring groceries, shoes you do not mind getting wet, and layers. The tide goes out twice a day and reveals a working oyster bed in front of the cabin, so footwear you can walk the tide flats in matters.
You do not need to bring gear. Kayaks and paddle boards are kept at the property, firewood is stocked inside for the wood-burning stove, and linens, towels and toiletries are all provided, along with board games and a small library of Pacific Northwest books. Starlink high-speed WiFi is installed if you need to work.
A few things to know before you load the car: no pets, no smoking inside, no parties or events, quiet hours from 10 PM to 8 AM, and a two-night minimum stay. The rest of the practical questions are answered on the FAQ page.
